In my new life of unemployment I have decided to try a new hobby, cake decorating! My Grandma used to make and decorate wedding cakes, and my mom did all of our birthday cakes, but neither of these two decided to pass along this very valuable skill to me. At first I tried to convince my mom to teach me, but as is with some things, it was soon apparent that parents don't make for the best teachers. Part of the problem with my mom is that she said she didn't remember, which I think is really just her trying to get out of it. So I bough a beginner's guide for some help and I must say that in my first attempt I was pretty impressed with my self.
I then moved on to shaped pans and tried my hand at the art of stars. This pumpkin turned out pretty well but took a lot of time and concentration.
With two basics down I was ready to move on to learn some more techniques. I traded my awesome babysitting skills (I don't really know about that but I do love kids) for a professional lesson! Melanie Davis, from Melanie's Pink Cake Box, was my teacher and was really great.
After this experience I made one more cake to practice. After the fourth cake I realized that we had way too much cake sitting in the freezer and I was time to give it a rest for while. In the last couple of weeks I have successfully been able to give some of the cakes away to very deserving people and am excited to pick the hobby back up soon! This come with another motivation, that today I got a giant cupcake pan for FREE! at a garage sale. So be looking for another picture soon!
So what are some of your hobbies? I am always looking for a new and exciting challenge. Let me know if you have any ideas for my next project.
Love from Liberty,
Peggy
